On page optimization always comes first when developing a web marketing strategy. With that said, there is a lot to gain from building citations online.

So, What are Citations?

Citations are instances or mentions of your business in online directories. Directories can be national or based on location or industry. Web marketing strategy often mentions “local citations,” which are location specific and can help your visibility when people search from within your area.

How Can Citations Help Your Rankings?

Every link to your website increases the visibility and scope of your site. Links from these citations can not only increase the possibility of traffic to your site, but also help Google, Yahoo and Bing get to know a little bit more about your site (and business!). Citations often let you post photos, link to your social media accounts, or even link to other citations. Take advantage of all of the links available and widen your network.
